GRAY HARDWOOD FLOOR TRENDS 2026 (PLUS WHAT'S GOING OUT)
Cool blue-gray flooring is over. Warm greige and natural-with-gray-undertones are what's actually being installed in Kelowna luxury homes in 2026.
COOL GRAY IS OUT
The icy blue-gray hardwood that dominated 2017–2020 looks dated now. It clashes with the warm whites and natural-wood cabinets that everyone is moving toward. If you're building or renovating in 2026, skip cool gray.
WARM GREIGE IS THE NEW DEFAULT
Greige (gray + beige) hardwood floors are everywhere in new Kelowna builds — they bridge cool and warm tones, work with both bright white and creamy white walls, and don't lock you into one design era.
NATURAL OAK WITH GRAY UNDERTONES
Lightly stained natural oak with subtle gray undertones is the highest-end look right now. Think "weathered Scandinavian beach house," not "industrial loft." Costs more than fully stained options but ages beautifully.
WIDE PLANKS (7" AND UP)
Whatever the colour, wide planks are the single biggest hardwood trend. 7"–9" wide planks make rooms feel larger and more luxurious. Almost every high-end Kelowna install we do this year is wide-plank engineered oak.
AVOID: HIGH-GLOSS FINISHES
Matte and low-sheen (oiled or hardwax) finishes are universally preferred now. High-gloss polyurethane shows every footprint, scratch, and pet hair — and looks dated immediately.
THE 2026 KELOWNA SWEET SPOT
Wide-plank engineered white oak, lightly stained warm greige or natural with gray undertones, matte hardwax finish. Costs $14–$18/sq ft installed and reads as premium for the next 15+ years.
