HOW LONG DOES FLOORING INSTALLATION TAKE? (REAL TIMELINES BY MATERIAL)
Most flooring jobs are faster than people expect — but a few are slower. Here's how long each type actually takes.
QUICK REFERENCE (1,000 SQ FT RESIDENTIAL)
Laminate: 1–2 days. LVP: 1–2 days. Engineered hardwood (floating): 2–3 days. Solid hardwood (nail or glue down): 3–5 days. Tile: 3–6 days depending on size and pattern. Epoxy garage floor: 2 days.
WHAT AFFECTS TIMELINE
Subfloor condition is the #1 variable. A flat, clean, dry subfloor lets us install at full speed. Significant levelling, demo, or moisture remediation adds 1–2 days. Pattern complexity (herringbone, large-format tile) also slows things down — and that's a good thing, because rushing those is how lippage and gaps happen.
ACCLIMATION TIME
Hardwood and laminate need 48–72 hours of acclimation in the room before install. We schedule that into the timeline so it's not a surprise.
CURE & WALK-ON TIMES
LVP and laminate: walk on immediately. Hardwood: walk on immediately, but no heavy furniture for 24 hours after glue-down. Tile: walk on after 24 hours, no grout sealing for 48–72 hours. Epoxy: walk on after 24 hours, drive on after 48–72 hours.
